In 1982 Arman created Long Term Parking, a monumental 19-metre tower made up of 59 carcasses cast in concrete, in the heart of the Domaine du Montcel. Symbolising consumer society, the work illustrates both the abundance and perishability of objects.
When it was first created, it provoked controversy, shocking people with its presence in a rural, neo-classical setting. Today, it is recognised as one of the major works of modern art. Designed to evolve over time, this sculpture raises the question of its eventual disappearance, reflecting the fragility of what it represents.
