100% carbon-neutral building

All GHG emissions emitted by the building  are offset. 

GHG offsets related to activities

The Palais offsets travel-related GHG emissions generated by its representatives (Carbon Boréal program) and encourages clients to do the same as part of their event planning (Palais Boréal).

Reducing urban heat islands in downtown Montréal 

Internationally acclaimed since its open-ing in 2011, the Palais’ green roof became Québec’s leading showcase for urban agriculture experimentation and pro-motion in 2016, thanks to the innovative projects led by the Urban Agriculture Laboratory (AU/LAB). The roof is also home to the first urban rooftop vine-yard in Canada, and the world’s first in a northern environment.

The major expansion of the green roof to 35,000 sq. ft. (3,250 m2) in 2023 paved the way for new research projects on rooftop vegetable production, agritourism and marketing, confirming the project’s status as a driving force in promoting Montréal internationally in the realm of urban agriculture.
