The Orangery is a stunning venue that can cater to events all year round. It boasts of a rich history dating back to 1704, when it was built by Nicholas Hawksmoor. The venue is surrounded by its own beautiful gardens and set in the heart of Kensington Palace grounds. The Orangery's red brick exterior and grand windows exude classic elegance and ample natural light.
During the reign of Queen Anne, the Kensington gardens were in dire need of renovation. The Queen took it upon herself to oversee the restoration of these gardens, and in September of 1704, construction of a new "greenhouse" began. This greenhouse, now known as the Orangery, has an incredible interior decoration, including carved details by Grinling Gibbons. It reflects its intended use as a ‘summer supper house’ and a place for entertainment.
In 2018 the Orangery closed again to undergo extensive restoration work. The attention to detail and meticulous craftsmanship that went into the restoration can be seen in every corner of the Orangery, making it a true beauty to behold. So finally, after six years the Orangery is reopening in April 2024 to be enjoyed by all.
Liz Young, Head of Events for Historic Royal Palaces, said, "We are thrilled to host our valued guests and clients again at this stunning venue after its extensive renovation. The Orangery's rich history and gorgeous location within Kensington Palace is what truly makes it a unique and special place."
The Orangery's south-facing terrace offers a breathtaking backdrop for beautiful receptions with a view of the tranquil gardens. To create a more exclusive event, the stunning palace state rooms can also be combined with the Orangery, along with private tours for groups up to 300 people. Making it the perfect choice for a more tailored experience.
The Kensington Palace events team are now accepting bookings for the Orangery in 2024. It is a highly sought-after venue, with a limited number of events permitted each year so if you are interested, please do not hesitate to contact the wonderful team by emailing [email protected]
