MIAMI BEACH HAS long been lauded for its white sandy beaches and storied oceanfront addresses. Set to debut later this year, The James Nautilus Miani Beach marks the flagship, bringing a newly reimagined lifestyle to the brand. Following a nearly $45 million renovation, the design team at Anderson Miller led the hotel's redesign to revive the legacy of the original hotel, paying homage to Morris Lapidus's 1950s design, known as "The Architect of Joy."
Rather than rewriting the building's history, the design team sought to celebrate and preserve the building's original Lapidus-era heritage. From the broad column bays and towering ceilings to the terrazzo Booring. the team at Anderson Miller brought new life to The James Nautilus Miami Beach, one that leans into the signature architectural, theatrical glamour and flair.
"When guests step into the doors of The James Nautilus Miami Beach, we want them to feel as though they are stepping into a world curated by James himself." shares Elizabeth Harlow, chief brand officer of Sonesta International Hotels. "This is more than the unveiling of a hotel or brand; we're creating an atmosphere where every quest feels instantly welcomed, inspired, and part of something special."
Leaning into a playful spirit, the hotel's concept centers on "James," the brand's fictional yet charismatic host who exudes the same effortless charm and taste the hotel exemplifies. Throughout the property, guests can discover curated experiences surrounded by great company. Guest rooms carry a similar aesthetic with layered textures, warm naturals and a color palette of tobacco leathers, mossy greens, and saffron and crimson accents that reflect the city's energy and Latin American influences.
Standing as the flagship location for The James Hotels, a reimagined hospitality brand by Sonesta, the hotel marks a new era for the storied address. The 250-room property will introduce destination-worthy culinary concepts in partnership with LDV Hospitality, the group behind acclaimed restaurants Scarpetta, American Cut, and Barlurne. Decadent dining options are planned to include a signature Mediterranean-inspired restaurant overlooking the pool deck and beach, an intimate Omakase experience where refinement and exclusivity take center stage, and a late-night cocktail lounge steeped in theatrical inspiration. Beyond the restaurants, the hotel aims to become a place for locals and travelers alike to experience a vibrant social hub, one teeming with cultural programming and celebrating the sun-kissed oceanfront and Miami community.
"The James Nautilus represents both a new chapter and a thoughtful tribute to one of Miami Beach's most iconic addresses," says Carlos Garcia, general manager of The James Nautilus Miami Beach. "As Collins Avenue enters a renaissance, the property will stand out as a gathering place for both visitors and locals seeking a more intimate and elevated Miami Beach experience."
Influenced by warmth, craftsmanship and social rhythms, The James Nautilus Miami Beach celebrates Miami Beach's cultural legacy, reclaiming its address with a welcome invitation. 1825 Collins Ave., Miami Beach.
