A combination of one of Zealand’s largest rooftop solar installations and long-term Danish wind and solar agreements means every event at Bella Center Copenhagen is now powered by 100% renewable electricity.
COPENHAGEN – From international congresses and exhibitions to arena-scale corporate events, powering a major venue requires a lot of electricity. At Bella Center Copenhagen, all of it now comes from renewable sources.
As of July 2026, Bella Center Copenhagen and the rest of Bellagroup’s Copenhagen hospitality portfolio transitioned to 100% renewable electricity, combining on-site solar production with long-term Power Purchase Agreements for Danish wind and solar power.
The transition is expected to reduce Bellagroup’s annual CO₂e emissions by approximately 4,500 tonnes, equivalent to 28% of the group’s total 2025 carbon footprint. It also means Bellagroup has already surpassed its 2030 Science Based Targets for Scope 1 and 2 emissions.
At the heart of the transition is a 16,000-square-meter roof-integrated solar park on top of Bella Center Copenhagen. In 2025, it generated more than 2.4 million kWh and supplied 42.3% of the venue’s electricity consumption.
The remainder is covered through long-term Power Purchase Agreements linked to wind turbines in Thy in north-western Denmark and a solar park in Stenlille on Zealand.
“For us, the important step was moving from ambition to infrastructure,” says Jesper Mark Dixen, CEO of Bellagroup. “A congress or corporate event needs power regardless of whether anyone thinks about where that electricity comes from. Our responsibility is to work on the systems behind the experience and make the lower-impact choice part of the default.”
The move forms part of a broader climate strategy spanning both venue operations and individual events. Bella Center Copenhagen provides complimentary Event Impact Reports for large-scale events and has introduced Event Impact Guidelines to help organizers make informed choices before an event. Bellagroup became B Corp certified in 2025.
“Event organizers have an important role to play, but there are areas where the venue has to take responsibility,” Dixen says. “Energy infrastructure is one of them. Our customers should be able to focus on creating extraordinary events while expecting us to keep improving what happens behind the scenes.”
For planners, the result is simple: whether Bella Center Copenhagen is hosting a medical congress, corporate event, trade show or thousands of spectators for a live event, the electricity powering it is now 100% renewable.
