Therme Singapore breaks ground on landmark well-being destination
Therme Group has broken ground on Therme Singapore, a major new development set to open at Marina South in 2030.
Spanning more than 720,000 square feet, equivalent to over nine football fields, the project will become Asia's first large-scale integrated urban well-being destination. The development aims to bring a new form of social infrastructure to the region, combining recreation, nature and well-being in one location.
Robert Hanea, Founder and CEO of Therme Group, said: "Therme Group's vision is to create a new form of social infrastructure where well-being is accessible, joyful and integrated into everyday city life. Singapore's commitment to long-term urban planning, innovation and world-class public spaces makes it a natural home for this vision.
"As our first destination in Asia, Therme Singapore will serve as a platform for regional growth, helping us develop partnerships, capabilities and models that can be scaled across Asia and beyond."
The Therme Singapore experience
Designed for visitors of all ages, from families with young children to working professionals and seniors, Therme Singapore will bring together leisure, nature and well-being in a single destination.
The seven-story development will feature more than 20 indoor and outdoor pools and water attractions, alongside over 70 wellness treatment rooms. The visitor experience is divided into three zones: Play offering family-focused water attractions and interactive play areas, Relax featuring thermal pools, mineral baths, quiet water spaces, hydromassage beds and infrared therapy, and Restore focused on deeper relaxation and renewal, with saunas, steam rooms and massage treatment areas designed to support physical and mental well-being.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy more than 86,000 square feet of food and beverage outlets for dining, relaxation and socializing, many with views across the waterfront.
Landscape and sustainability
Nature will play a central role in the development.
More than 200,000 plants representing over 200 species, including orchids and native Southeast Asian varieties, will be incorporated throughout the site. The planting will help support local biodiversity while creating immersive indoor and outdoor green spaces.
Beyond the development itself, a coastal public park spanning almost four hectares will connect Therme Singapore to Marina Barrage. The new park is designed to improve access to green space while enhancing the ecological and recreational value of the waterfront district.
The project is being developed by Therme Group in partnership with Kajima Overseas Asia (Singapore) and designed by DP Architects alongside Therme Group's in-house architecture team, Therme ARC.
A range of sustainability initiatives will be built into the destination, including energy-efficient building systems, solar photovoltaic panels, smart irrigation technology and climate-adaptive landscaping designed to reduce operational carbon emissions and support biodiversity.
Technology will also play a significant role in the visitor experience. Features will include waterproof RFID wristbands that act as locker keys and cashless payment tools, a robotic locker system designed to maximize convenience and space efficiency, and advanced ozone-based water filtration systems to improve water quality and operational performance.
Mah Bow Tan, Chairman of Therme Group Asia and Therme Singapore, said: "Therme Singapore has the potential to become one of Singapore's most meaningful shared spaces, visited by millions over time and woven into the life of the city. To achieve this, it must be iconic, enduring and inclusive in its design, programming and experience, while reflecting Singapore's climate, culture and lifestyle.”
"Beyond the visitor experience, Therme Singapore is also about people, creating jobs, developing new capabilities and supporting Singapore's tourism, hospitality and wellness sectors. Singapore offers the connectivity, talent and culture of innovation needed to support this vision and help us serve both local communities and visitors from across the region."
