Caffeine at IMEX
Where coffee means community
Coffee is everything at IMEX HQ. Well maybe not everything—cake is important too. But in all seriousness, it’s always been part of our DNA. And if you ever want to know where to find the best coffee pretty much whichever city you’re in, just ask our chairman, Ray Bloom. Or read Monocle’s list of the 25 best coffee shops in the world.
What defines the coffee shops on their list? Thoughtfully designed interiors, hyper-local storytelling and of course a great cup of coffee.
As consumers look for experiences that feel authentic and memorable, one of the strongest trends emerging is the focus on community. Whether it's a neighborhood café in Los Angeles, a creative venue in Dubai or a design-led concept in London, owners are offering spaces that encourage people to stay longer and engage with one another. Shared tables, flexible layouts and regular events are helping coffee shops become local meeting points rather than simply places to grab a drink on the go.
Design is also playing a bigger role in shaping customer experience. While aesthetics remain important, they go beyond creating social media-friendly spaces to focus on thoughtful layouts, comfort and functionality. Supporting how people actually work, meet and spend their time.
Another notable shift is the growing importance of local identity. Coffee businesses are increasingly drawing inspiration from regional traditions, ingredients and cultures to create something unique. In India, locally sourced beans and flavors are championed. In Portugal, traditional coffee rituals are reimagined for a modern audience.
Traditionally, specialty coffee has often been associated with premium pricing and niche audiences. But now quality coffee is being made more approachable through clear menus, welcoming environments and pricing strategies that appeal to a broader customer base.
Technology and operational innovation are also influencing the sector. From streamlined takeaway concepts to faster brewing systems, coffee shops are finding ways to serve customers more efficiently without compromising quality. This balance between convenience and craftsmanship is helping coffee companies scale while maintaining their identity.
Growth strategies are becoming more deliberate. Rather than simply increasing store numbers, coffee companies are carefully choosing locations that align with their values, audience and brand positioning. This approach mirrors the direction of the events industry as it pushes to create memorable experiences rooted in human connection, strong storytelling and a clear sense of purpose.
Finding a local coffee shop in a new city is one of the great joys of travel—we’re all looking for places that make us feel welcome while gently immersing us in our new environment.
So, where’s Ray’s local coffee shop in Las Vegas? It’s
Vesta in the Arts District. You’re welcome.
