Paul Van Deventer joined Meeting Professionals International (MPI) in 2013 as President and Chief Executive Officer. He leads the strategic direction of MPI’s global association and the MPI Foundation.
Before joining MPI, Paul served as Divisional Vice President of the Health & Wellness Division at Walgreens. Before Walgreens, he was Senior Vice President of Sales and Field Services at Mitchell International Inc. He previously spent 22 years with American Express, holding senior global leadership positions in consumer card, publishing, business travel and corporate payments.
Paul serves on the board of Meeting Professionals International and the Events Industry Council (EIC), where he is a former Chair. He also serves on the board of directors for the U.S. Travel Association, where he is active on the Business and Group Travel Council. He is a past Chair of the Meetings Mean Business Coalition (MMB) and serves on the board of Tourism Diversity Matters (TDM).
Paul holds a BA in history from Villanova University and an MBA with a concentration in finance from Columbia University. He and his wife, Dennie, have been married for nearly 40 years. They are the proud parents of five young adults and have two grandchildren. They are also avid Villanova basketball fans.
